An Unfixed Image: The Photographic Across Media will explore the nature of the photographic image and its relationship to embodiment as an object. From its inception, the photograph has been duplicitous as it has existed as an image and an object, referenced the real and the fictional, and operated indexically and specifically. The ten artists in the exhibition – Brendan Fowler, Lothar Hempel, Leslie Hewitt, Elad Lassry, Marlo Pascual, Eileen Quinlan, Mariah Robertson, John Stezaker, Sara VanDerBeek, and Letha Wilson – create works that engage a porous relationship between analog and digital practices while raising crucial questions about visual strategies and the materiality of the photographic image. The Eastern Wind Symphony, under the direction of Todd Nichols and Adam Warshafsky, welcomes world-renowned trumpet soloist Allen Vizzutti to the stage at Richardson Auditorium for a concert entitled Juxtapose. This performance will be held on Saturday March 21, 2015 at 8:00pm and will explore many styles of music from classical to jazz, with favorites such as Holst’s First Suite in E Flat and Schuman’s Chester Overture for Band as well as newer works by Bryant and Vizzutti himself. The Eastern Wind Symphony was formed in the spring of 1996, with the intent of creating a professional wind band for local musicians and graduates of The College of New Jersey that would be of extraordinary quality, dedicated to performing the very best wind and percussion literature. The Eastern Wind Symphony is currently comprised of professional woodwind, brass, and percussion musicians and music educators from New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The ensemble strives to promote the American wind band as a serious artistic medium that is of the highest merit, while providing both our audiences and members alike strong musical, cultural, and social growth opportunities through performances and educational outreach.
